Veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic (porcelain) or a composite resin material which are bonded to the front of your teeth. This procedure requires little or no anesthesia and can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Veneers are placed to mask discolourations, to brighten teeth and to improve a smile.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over the tooth-to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gumline.
Modern white fillings are a combination of a resin and nano-particles of glass.
White composite resin dental fillings were created as an alternative to traditional metal dental fillings. Tooth fillings colored to look like a natural tooth are strong, durable, and make for a very natural looking smile. White fillings can be used to replace decay or replace old silver fillings for cosmetic reasons.White fillings are best when the cavity to be replaced is small or medium size. When the cavity is large a porcelain inlay or onlay is the best option.
Onlays/Inlays are fillings made of porcelain that fit into the tooth.
They are indicated when there is too little tooth structure to predictibly support a white filling but there is enough tooth to avoid placing a crown, which is more destructive to the tooth.
Porcelain Inlays/Onlays take 2 visits to complete. First session is when when the decay or old filling is removed, and impression is taken and a temporary filling is placed. The impression will be sent to the laboratory and the technician will create a custom made porcelain inlay or onlay that will fit exactly to the tooth.
The big advantage of Porcelain Onlays/Inlays is that there are more durable than white fillings. A dental inlay fills the space in between the cusps, or rounded edges, at the center of the tooth's surface. The dental onlay works like an inlay but covers one or more cusps or the entire biting surface of the tooth. Because of their extensive coverage, dental onlays are sometimes referred to as "partial crowns."
Beautiful, clean teeth are key to the way we look and feel about ourselves and how others see us. We all try to look after our teeth: we brush, we floss, we use mouth wash regularly, but sometimes that isn’t enough to remove the toughest plaque deposits and give a polished smile.
At Victoria Road Dentology Horley we specialise in effective treatments which will make your smile dazzle. Better dental hygiene, through thorough teeth cleaning, has health benefits too. Gum disease, which can develop when plaque is allowed to build up between the surfaces of teeth, can be linked to serious health issues like heart disease and diabetes.
The IMPORTANCE of regular check ups is PARAMOUNT.
Checking your teeth for tooth decay is just one part of a thorough dental examination.
During your checkup appointment, your dentist will likely evaluate the health of your gums, perform a head and neck examination (to look for anything out of the ordinary) and examine your mouth for any indications of oral cancer, diabetes or vitamin deficiencies.
Don’t be surprised if your dentist also examines your face, bite, saliva and movement of your lower jaw joints (TMJs). Great dental care can also contribute to great overall health.
One of the most important parts of each dental visit is your visual oral cancer check, where your mouth is surveyed for early signs of cancer.
